Assessment / Diagnosis by Vicky Bliss
Generally diagnoses are made by following the criteria set out in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - version IV -text revised (DSM-IV-TR). This type of diagnosis involves an interview with the person and others who know the person well, and can take between 1 and 2 hours. Mental Health Issues An assessment of mental health difficulties can be done informally, though if a person wishes to have a more formal assessment completed for use by service providers, benefit agencies, courts, education or other agencies, that can be done also. Costs outlined below. Autism / Asperger Syndrome A diagnosis for Autistic Spectrum Disorders can be done informally, though if a person wishes to have a more formal assessment completed for use by service providers, benefit agencies, courts, education or other agencies, that can be done also. Vicky uses the Autism Diagnostic Interview - Revised (ADI-R) which is a comprehensive interview format done with people who know the person well. An interview with the person would also be necessary. The completion of this work can take up to 3 hours, and a letter is written to the person with the details of the outcome of the assessment. Details of costs can be found here. Vicky's main experience is with adults, though children can be seen for assessments as well. |
