Training for Support Staff/Carers
Tailored Workshops for Family carers and / or paid carers.
Supporting those who help people with:
- Mental Health Problems
- Learning Disabilities
- Autism / Asperger Syndrome
- Dementia
- Carer Stress
- Staff Management
- Acquired Brain Injury
Both family carers and paid staff are critical resources for people who need support in their daily life. On a daily basis carers are left to make important decisions about how to support another person. Often they make exactly the right decision, but sometimes their considerable coping skills go unnoticed.
Solution focused training involves understanding what carers want to change and noticing existing, strengths and coping skills that will help them reach their goal.
Throughout the workshops, carers will be invited to use the things that are right about their present situation to 'do something different? in order to make a difference in both their own and another person's lives.
The workshop presenters include a person with a disability, and longer workshops include a perspective from a parent.
What Can Participants Expect?
- A comfortable, safe environment
- Confidential treatment of shared information
- Handout material and the opportunity to take notes
- The saving and frequent use of humour
- To meet and learn from others in similar situations
- To leave the workshop with a plan to do at least one thing different
- Telephone or e-mail follow-up if desired
What Can Consultation Funders Expect?
- An improvement in staff morale or stress level
- The introduction of creative responses to difficult behaviours
- An increase in joint working among team members if this is applicable
- The attainment of any individual goals set at the beginning of the workshop
- Participant satisfaction with the workshop
How Does All This Happen Then?
- The workshop presenters use a combination of information giving about Solution Focused Approaches (a fun lecture / discussion type of thing); watching videos of SF work; possible live role play between presenters; and individual as well as group work among participants.
- No participant will be asked to do anything with which they are not comfortable. The presenters do all the embarrassing stuff.
